Not in St Pete, but close enough and if you’re on the west side of St Pete, then I suggest checking out Route 66 Diner on 66th St, in Pinellas Park. ( full address: 9721 66 St N ) I believe I read a post a few months ago about this diner, and just now got around to checking them out and we are so glad we did! I had to start with one of the GF cinnamon rolls, I was informed that they would have to check to see if they had any left, and they did have 1 left. It was fantastic! Soft and fluffy with the right amount of cinnamon sugar. Hubby doesn’t usually like cinnamon rolls and he even had to have a couple of bites. I ordered the Waffle Special with a GF Belgian waffle, hubby ordered the biscuits (gf) and gravy (gf) along with some bacon, sausage and potatoes on the side. The waffle was delicious and soft with the perfect chew. Hubby said he probably should have gotten the half order of biscuits because there were 4 biscuits for the full order. He said he would go here just for the biscuits! So if you haven’t tried them yet, give them a try. We did over hear them saying they would be closing for vacation but would be opening again on the 14th. ( not sure when vacation starts) We will be back on a regular basis.

I’ve been waiting a long time to try the gluten free offerings at Route 66 Diner in Pinellas. Today we stopped by and although we did not have a meal, I grabbed an apple fritter and a fried apple turnover to-go. Both were absolutely delicious. The fritter was nice and soft and had great flavour. The turnover, however, was so good I can’t believe it. Celiac Disease limits … (pretty close to restricts)… any fried treats, so this was extra-special and delicious, and absolutely exceeded my expectations! I can’t wait to go back and eat-in to try some of the yummy Route 66 brunch offerings that are also carefully made gluten free. Staff was friendly and helpful. The place was packed, with a steady-stream of people going in and out, which speaks to the great food and service at Route 66 Diner.
I’ve been here twice and both times the staff was so friendly and the food was great! As a gluten free person, having so many options that are available to me is such a treat and then when they taste good too! Definitely a spot I will be back to!
If you read some of these reviews for Rt 66, you'll envision the same service and deliciousness that we experienced today - coming here for the first time. This place rocks! Some great gluten free and non-gluten free food. They do have a dedicated fryer for most items. Definitely want to call out our server Payton. He was enthusiastic and motived to succeed with helping us and ensuring our order was accurate. The place is just awesome. Some pics of the goodness posted here too. Price was perfect, but we overate - couldn't help it LOL. Will continue to post updated pics of what we try each time :).
Fantastic place to eat. Great atmosphere. Friendly service. Family owned and operated. So many great gluten free options including baked goods like apple turnovers and donuts and cinnamon rolls. They even shave their Philly cheesesteak beef in house - being from the Philly area I can tell you it's legit. Come try this place. You won't regret it!
Excellent service, delicious food and great prices! Very kid friendly. The staff made our 2 young kids feel so welcome. They loved colouring wood ornaments for the Halloween tree and we all devoured our food! We’ll be back!
First time trying this diner and we will be back! I enjoyed my chicken parm sub with fries, while the wife and daughter had BLTs. One with tots, the other with homemade chips. Opt for the chips or tots when you go. Fries were good, but the other two options better. Daughter had a chocolate shake and said she liked it. Definitely one of the better diners in the area!
I had no idea this cute restaurant was in this shopping center. It appears to be family owned and it shows with the service and food!The food was scrumptious and the best grits I've had outside of the Seahorse for breakfast. I'll be back.
